The Impreza GT T(urbo) was the homologation special for the WRC (World Rally Championship) version of Subaru at the time.
Why is this Impreza 555 so iconic?
Colin McRae became WRC World Champion in 1995 after a fierce battle with fellow Subaru teammate Carlos Sainz and to celebrate this championship this limited edition was delivered in 1996. In 1997 McRae is one point short for a 2nd world title. Incidentally, Subaru also won the constructors' title in 1995, 1996 and 1997. McRae was known for his spectacular driving style and a relentless "hunger" to win, which unfortunately resulted in a crash too often. His famous words "If in doubt flat out" and "Straight roads are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers" are widely known.
In 1998, McRae and Subaru sadly parted ways. In the following years he drove for the teams of Ford and Citroen, but he never reached the top again. In retrospect, Subaru & McRae turned out to be the perfect match! Sadly, Colin McRae died in a helicopter accident in 2007 when he was only 39 years old. All this gives an extra emotional charge to this version and makes this Sub even more iconic. One chunk of rally history, this GT T is the rally legend!
It was the fear of many sports car owners at the time!
In 1996 a "bargain" for a four-wheel drive car with 200+hp. Despite its relatively low sales price, a car to dream of!
Times change a GTT is nowadays a rarity and has acquired more than a cult status,
Only 120 of these "Colin McRae" (then called Editon 555) were delivered in the Netherlands in the years 1996/1997, of which only 50 were numbered.
This unique 555 was delivered new in the Netherlands and comes from the 2nd owner, the last of owner had it in his possession for 19 years, has only 138,000 km (NAP) on the clock and is completely original. The engine is matching, completely factory original and never overhauled. In addition, the body is hard and not welded, not even in the well-known places and this is really unique, as the real Subarist / enthusiast will know.
Characteristic is its dark blue non-metallic 555 rally exterior color (Monte Carlo Blue 53C), which was only available on this limited version and of course its matching gold-coloured light-alloy wheels. In the interior, the partly Alcantara bucket/sport seats, as well as the Nardi sports steering wheel and gear knob are the hallmarks of this limited edition and its "gold" Limited-Edition emblem 49 in the middle on the dashboard.
In short, he was already unique at the time and now after more than 25 years this is one of the last of the Mohicans!
But it's not just beautiful to look at!
This primeval-Impreza with 211 hp is no-nonsense, it has no assistance systems such as ABS, traction control or whatever, no airbags, no airconditioning or other bells & whistles. Not even a radio is present, because what could be more beautiful than hearing that raw boxer rumble, more beautiful than any kind of music?
We have had a lot of GTT's in our collection, but this one drives and steers incredibly "tight", as if it just rolled out of the factory. This Sub is original, pure, is a real drivers car with feeling & experience, which no modern sports car can match.
After arrival, we technically overhauled it as far as necessary and then let it be pampered by MD Services Exclusive Car Detailing, who gave it a full "beauty" treatment including a top coat "Blindo" from Labocosmetica. The result can be seen extensively on video on our Facebook page @lthardenberg.
In short, really the dots…..on the i and the result is more than dazzling.
This collector's item is perfectly "preserved" for the future!
Both the interior and exterior are nearly in "a mint condition"!
But what is this rare limited edition icon worth?
After all, it cannot be compared with a "normal" GTT, which are almost impossible to find in this condition!
In any case, it will be very difficult to persuade us to part with this unique 555.

Waarom is deze Impreza 555 zo iconisch?
Colin McRae werd er in 1995, na een hevige strijd met zijn mede Subaru-teamgenoot Carlos Sainz, wereldkampioen WRC mee en om dit kampioenschap te vieren werd in 1996 deze gelimiteerde versie geleverd. In 1997 komt McRae één puntje tekort voor een 2e wereldtitel. Overigens won Subaru er ook de constructeurstitel mee in 1995,1996 en 1997. McRae stond bekend om zijn spectaculaire rijstijl en een niet aflatende "honger" om te winnen, wat jammer genoeg te vaak resulteerde in een crash. Zijn gevleugelde uitspraken "If in doubt flat out" en "Straight roads are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers" zijn alom bekend.
In 1998 namen McRae en Subaru helaas afscheid van elkaar. De jaren daarop reed hij o.a. voor de teams van Ford en Citroen echter behaalde hij nooit meer de top. Achteraf bleken Subaru & McRae de perfect match! Helaas is Colin McRae in 2007 bij een helikopter ongeluk om het leven gekomen, hij werd slechts 39 jaar oud. Dit alles geeft nog eens een extra emotionele lading aan deze uitvoering en maakt deze Sub zo nog iconischer. Eén brok rally-historie, deze GT T is dé rally-legend!
Het was destijds de angstgegner van menig sportwagenbezitter!
In 1996 een "koopje" voor een vierwiel aangedreven auto met 200+pk. Ondanks zijn relatief lage verkoopprijs een auto om van te dromen!
Tijden veranderen een GTT is tegenwoordig een zeldzaamheid en heeft meer dan een cult status gekregen.
Van deze "Colin McRae" (destijds Editon 555 genoemd) zijn er in 1996/1997 maar 120 in Nederland geleverd, waarvan slechts 50 genummerd.
Deze unieke 555 is dus nieuw in Nederland geleverd en afkomstig van 2e eigenaar, waarvan de laatste hem sinds 2002 in zijn bezit had, heeft slechts 138.000km(NAP) op het klokje en is geheel origineel. De motor is matching, geheel fabrieks origineel en nimmer gereviseerd. Bovendien is de carrosserie hard en niet gelast, ook niet op de bekende plekken en dit is echt uniek, zoals dé echte liefhebber zal weten.
Kenmerkend is zijn karakteristieke donkerblauwe non-metallic 555 rally-exterieurkleur (Monte Carlo Blue 53C), welke alléén op deze gelimiteerde versie werd geleverd en natuurlijk zijn bijbehorende goudkleurige lichtmetalen velgen. In het interieur zijn de deels alcantara kuip/sportstoelen, alsmede het Nardi sportstuur en versnellingspookknop de herkenningspunten van deze gelimiteerde uitvoering en zijn "gouden" Limited-Edition embleem 49 midden op het dashboard.
Kortom hij was destijds al uniek en inmiddels na meer dan 25 jaar is dit één van de laatste der mohikanen!
Maar hij is niet alleen mooi om naar te kijken!
Deze OER-Impreza met 211pk is no-nonsens, hij heeft geen hulpsystemen zoals ABS, traction-control of wat dan ook, geen airbags geen airco af andere toeters & bellen. Zelfs een radio is niet aanwezig, want wat is er mooier dan die rauwe boxer-roffel te horen, mooier dan welke muziek dan ook?
Wij hebben al heel wat GTT's in onze verzameling gehad maar deze rijdt en stuurt ongekend "strak", alsof ie net uit de fabriek gerold is. Deze Sub is origineel, puur, is echt een drivers-auto met gevoel & beleving, waar geen enkele moderne sportieve auto aan kan tippen.
Wij hebben hem na binnenkomst voor zover nodig technisch onder handen genomen en daarna lekker laten verwennen door MD Services Exclusive Car Detailing, die hem een volledige “schoonheids” behandeling hebben gegeven inclusief een top coat “Blindo” van Labocosmetica. Kortom echt de puntjes….. op de i en het resultaat is meer dan oogverblindend.
Zo is dit collectors item perfect “geconserveerd” voor de toekomst!
Zowel het in- als exterieur bevindt zich bijna in "a mint condition"!
Maar wat is deze zeer zeldzame gelimiteerde icoon waard?
Een generatie 1(211pk) is al zeldzaam en dan ook nog in deze is al zeer moeilijk te vinden, een gelimiteerd als deze zal dan ook nagenoeg onvindbaar zijn!
Je zal in ieder geval "van zeer goede huize moeten komen" om ons te bewegen om afstand te doen van deze unieke & zeer zeldzame 555.
